Week 3 9/15 - 9/19

Monday- computer lab.    Finishing up the conspiracy theories surrounding the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.  Remaining time should be to practice for the states test on-line This worksheet on Conspiracy theories/assassination  is due no later than Friday if you have not yet completed while we were in the lab.

Tuesday- Continue with notes using Cornell style format- should finish section one.
HW:   The "I" Word worksheet - due Thursday

Wednesday-" Humpty Dumpty", Notes continued.


Thursday- Notes continued in section two and read and respond to Jourdan Anderson letter /questions in packet.  Students should be finished section two by today. If not, this should be considered independent work outside of class.  Students should know and be able to explain vocabulary words from first two sections.

Friday- quiz-open note: Sections 1 & 2/ CNN Student News

Ongoing:   Study for states test-scheduled for next Thursday.  You must know the location (and be able to  spell correctly ) 35 out of our 50 states.  Reminder: Turn in conspiracy theories packet including summary paragraph by this Friday.

Week 2 9/8-9/12

Monday- Baaa by David MacAuley   Students will work with partners to read and respond to this   allegory which includes the topics/issues such as overpopulation, natural resource depletion, social class, and consumption by depicting sheep evolving to a point of self destruction.   Students will need to use their inference skills to determine how the book ends!  HW:  Baaa responses due by Thursday  (They will need to get a copy of the book on Tuesday as needed)

Tuesday- Review of Civil War and its impacts- reading and discussion


Wednesday What Price Freedom?  Video on Reconstruction Era/ guided questions (good for building on listening skills)

Thursday- Chapter 17  Reconstruction  Section One  Rebuilding the South    Students will be learning how to use Cornell-style notes (Teacher will use modeled notes for this first section which will be done as a whole class)  If section one is not finished, students are responsible for completing independently.

Friday/Monday - Computer Lab    Registration of books for online access.  Assignment: Lincoln Assassination Plot and Conspiracy Theories-  Students will be  researching the facts behind Lincoln's assassination as well as some of the conspiracy theories regarding his death.   Any additional time should be used for playing the online states game to study for the states test the week of 9/22.  The packet should be turned in by the end of next week.  Students have study halls, after school time, or they may elect to work from home using the links on this web site to complete this as needed.

Week 1 9/1 - 9/5

Monday -   Labor Day

Tuesday - Teachers only

Wednesday- First day of school for students-  We will go over info on studies for the year and textbooks will be distributed to each student.  Sheet with parent contact info needs to be signed and returned.  HW:  Why Study History?  Due Friday


Thursday- Info on classroom procedures and expectations.  Overview of textbook -whole class.   Students will fill in a U. S. map by labeling all fifty states.  This sheet and the blank one provided  should be used for study purposes.   Test identifying 35 of 50 states is scheduled for  the week of  9/22

Friday -  "Can You Pass the Citizenship Test Challenge?" and CNN Student News    .
